My 5 Most Exciting Movies Coming In 2021

2021 is here and with it a whole host of movies to get excited about.

The New Year is here and with it comes excitement for upcoming movies set to be released in the next twelve months. After last year and the impacts on the film industry 2021 boasts an exciting roster of films to get film goers excited and entertained.

Before we go into my list, welcome everybody to TTM a blog exploring every aspect of geek and pop culture! Be warned this article will be highly biased and based on my opinions only. Warning, expect superhero movies galore!

Fast and Furious 9

The first and only non superhero film on this list will finally comes out in May after a year delay. After eight films and a spin off the franchise returns, along with a back from the dead Han to take on Dom's brother and his army of hitmen.

The film will see Dom and his crew once again battle Cipher but this time with the addition of Dom's brother Jakob. An interesting take on a franchise that seemingly has done everything and will need a big outing to keep fans anticipated for Fast and Furious 10. The addition of Dom's brother will certainly help this, however the film will have to answer where he's been and why he's never been mentioned although it is fast and furious so I'm not expecting much.

Of course the big selling point of this film is the return of Han, when this was revealed in the trailer it sent Fast and Furious fans into a frenzy with the big hope for me being that A) this is Han and B) he is not a villain/mole/bad person. the decision to bring Han back was a big call, Han was a fan favourite the show already brought him back in Fast 5 by setting the films before his death in Tokyo Drift. Lets hope we can get a good Han and everyone can live happily ever after (but I doubt that very much)

The fact F9 makes it on this list will be a shock to some but for me, the one thing you cannot deny that you get from this franchise is fun as we wait for what mental thing the team will do next (my favourite is still flying cars out of a plane).

Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Venom 2 is a tricky one to rank in that in the UK there is still no release date or guarantee that the film will even be out in 2021. None the less with international release dates later this year I have decided to add Venom to the list. After what for me was a very enjoyable first instalment Tom Hardy will return, this time with Woody Harrelson's Carnage in a sequal that if done right has the recipe to be phenomenal.

The addition of Carnage is sure to build excitement for fans due to his fantastic portrayal in Marvel comic books and the fact Woody Harrelson put in a scene stealing two minute cameo at the end of Venom. The film will have a lot to achieve Carnage just like Venom is a fan favourite comic book character and will not be easy to get right, it will also have to continue to balance the role of it lead as of course Venom is by no means a hero and despite this, has already saved the world once.

The first Venom had mixed reviews. for me it was fantastic, everything about it was great and despite some flaws it provided a fantastic origin story along with some excellent acting from Tom Hardy who playing two different roles at once with Venom and Eddie brock. The romance plot between Eddie and Anne (Michelle Williams) seemed natural and not forced something that many superhero tv shows/films have struggled to achieve.

Venom 2 has a lot to achieve and still some fans to win over, the addition of Carnage will go some way to achieving this but the film itself will have a lot to do, the villain of the first Venom was Riot who, whilst enjoyable had little more to the character than lets take over the world. Of course Carnage will take a similar route (but with Carnage) but I'm hoping Woody Harrelson will take a Jokeresque approach to Carnage and if so, Carnage will be great.

3

Black Widow

The second superhero instalment on this list will have a good argument to be higher. This film, also delayed a year, has been in the works for years and fans have been asking for it even longer. Scarlett Johansen will finally get to headline her own movie and bring Black Widow to the forefront with a trip through her past detailing her attempts to survive her own governments attempts at her life.

Another film that has a lot to do, the film will set after Civil War and before Infinity War as Natasha is on the run and will follow her attempts to survive capture and/or execution. The film also introduces Natasha's family, the highlight of the trailer being a superb fight between Natasha and her sister upon their reunion. We also meet Natasha's father who will be the former Red Guardian when we meet him.

Black Widow will be great I'm sure, it has everything going for it and Scarlett Johannsen has been one of the best parts of a phenomenal MCU (I'm still not over Endgame) in recent years and fully deserves her own film. in addition to this, Black Widow the character is brilliant and has so much more to give the MCU (despite Endgame) it's interesting to take Natasha back to her family back to where she started in a time where she has lost everything after the breakup of the Avengers.

This is something I and so many comic book/superhero film fans have waited for, it's taken a awfully long time and after the year delay Black widow will finally make it onto Disney Plus at the start of May and will mark the first Marvel film in eighteen months.

2

Spider-Man 3

The last two movies on my list proved difficult to rank, both very exciting films and for one film a lot more rides on it's success. Spider Man comes in at two purely due to personal preference, a very exciting movie with arguably the best Spider-Man we have had, ( Tom Holland) add in appearances from characters from all three film franchises of Spider-Man and you have the recipe for one of the best superhero films ever.

The inclusion of former Spider-Men (Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire) is a great move but also a mighty gamble by Marvel. The amount of character appearances seems astronomical and this is without all the unannounced characters. The film could also see characters such as MJ from the original trilogy and villains such Jamie Fox's Electro.

The question is, with rumoured appearances from admittedly some of the best Spider-Man villains (Doc Oc, Norman Osborne and Kraven the hunter to name a few) will the film suffer from too many villains like the amazing Spider-Man 2 and the original Spider-Man 3? There's a lot going for this film and of course the cliff hanger of Far From Home will only increase the excitement, for me, giving this plot line time to develop and finding ways to work different characters and villains in will be a tough task one Marvel is taking a big gamble on.

Spider-Man could be brilliant, if it manages to unite all three Spider-Men franchises than it could be one of the best superhero films ever. It has a lot to do but i have high hopes as mentioned in other lists, if there's one studio that can pull this off it is the MCU.

1

The Suicide Squad

This one is purely down to my DC allegiances, after a disaster of a first film Suicide Squad is back in a reboot that will attempt to write the wrongs of the previous film. For me, if there is a reason to be hopeful about this film it is James Gunn. The man who helped bring Guardians of The Galaxy to the forefront of the MCU will take on the film and hopefully, finally bring the DCEU a great film.

In my opinion, the potential is there, Arrow was able to bring the suicide squad to life and show that there is a story with these characters. It's a huge film for DC as they look for the success the Arrowverse has achieved and hopefully this film can do that, this DC obsessed fan is certainly hoping so.

The film like Spider-Man has a lot to achieve, Suicide Squad was such a let down and really set the DCEU back. This film will take the best from that film, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Walker Joel Kinnaman as rick flag and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and will look to finally give The Suicide Squad a film it deserves. John Cena's Peacemaker is a great inclusion and DC clearly have high hopes for his character with a spin off already in the works.

James Gunn is brilliant, and his work on this film could be ground-breaking for DC, of course when Guardians of The Galaxy was made the comics were not even liked by comic book fans it really had no reason to be good. The Suicide Squad has more going for it with it's success in the Arrowverse and the spin off film for Harley Quinn, Birds of Prey being thoroughly enjoyable.

The film will be released in August and hopefully, we will get a movie that begins the start of a new and improved DCEU
