WandaVision Episode 6 Review: All New Halloween Spookctacular!

It's Halloween in Westview as the stakes are upped in an episode that expands the Westview mystery as WandaVision begins the ending of it's season.

Warning Spoilers Ahead

WandaVision started the back half of it's season this week with "All New Halloween Spooktacular", a shorter episode that started to put the pieces in place for WandaVision's ultimate endgame (what that is I have no clue).

The episode takes us to the 90's/00's in a Malcom and The Middle inspired episode revolving around Halloween in Westview. After a very 90's grunge intro we get some fourth wall breaking from Tommy and Billy who inform us that things are not all sunshine and rainbows for the family with tensions between Wanda and Vision since Pietro's arrival.

The sitcom side of the episode centres around two plots, Wanda trying to quiz Pietro about who he is as well as their childhood while taking the boys out trick or treating and Vision's mission to figure out what is happening with Westview and break out. SWORD's side of the episode see's Hayward's more villainous side as questions Monica's willingness to do what needs to be done (killing Wanda) before throwing Monica, Darcy and Jimmy out of Sword's base. In retaliation the three sneak back into SWORD to hack into Hayward's files, figure out what he is up to regarding the hex (Lovingly know by me as Sitcom land, can't stop now too far in). It's also established that Monica's molecules have been changed, I smell a new superhero!

In sitcom land Pietro's arrival serves as the mystery this week, after last weeks shock appearance Evan Peter's shines in this episode as the crazy fun uncle who's a bit goofy and silly. Of course, his appearance poses a lot of question's (see last weeks review here), Wanda wastes no time in trying to figure out if he is in fact her brother seemingly confirming that she did not bring Pietro here at least not consciously. Pietro is also fully aware about Wanda's control of Westview asking her how she did it with Wanda responding that she didn't know noting that she just felt alone. I have one main theory to who Pietro is which revolves around Mephisto, Marvel's version of the devil who in the comics is responsible for the birth of Tommy and Billy. Pietro knows too much why would Wanda bring any version of Pietro to Westview self aware?

Mephisto would be an interesting reveal, if it is him what is his plan? Is he controlling Wanda or waiting for something to happen? Why come to Westview now? The multiverse theory is not completely out the window but this episode does clearly work hard to distance itself from it.

Vision as mentioned spends the episode wandering around the town trying to figure out what is happening in Westview. We discover that those on the outskirts of town away from Wanda are frozen in time waiting for their cue almost, it's a dark twist that provides the right creepy feel for a Halloween episode.

Vision finds Agnes in her car also stuck not being able to figure out where she is or what to do. After Vision wakes Agnes up from the spell who instantly recognises Vision (who doesn't even know he was an Avenger) thinking she is dead and informing Vision that he is after a declaration of doom and a cackle (I'm convinced that's Agatha Harkness) Vision returns Agnes to the spell before making his way to the town boundary.

This a great scene for many reasons, the idea that Wanda only uses the people when she wants them to "shoot" is a great little plot point that makes great sense, it also packs a real emotional punch for those people trapped there (the lady crying through the spell was particularly heart wrenching). Vision's scene with Agnes also continues to poser questions, is Agnes putting on an act after last weeks "Shall I take it from the top"? I'm sure we will find out very soon.

As Vision approaches the boundary the three plots are brought together, after Darcy, Jimmy and Monica have hacked into Hayward's files they discover he is tracking Vision, Jimmy and Monica leave to find a friend of hers (please be Reed Richards please, please) whilst Darcy is found and handcuffed outside the hex. Meanwhile, Tommy and Billy have slowly been evolving into their superhero hero characters Wiccan and Speed with Billy (Wiccan) hearing the voice of his Dad in pain.

This is brought on by Vision's escape from the hex, Hayward gleefully watches as Vision is literally pulled apart by the hex after leaving his insistence that they save the people inside is brilliant as we finally get some character development for Vision as even when he is dying he wants those people to be saved. Wanda, after learning of this from Billy, responds by expanding Westview turning the SWORD base into a circus (Darcy as well) making Westview bigger than ever before and saving Vision.

This was a great end to an episode that was too short for me, I know we are getting to the end and the show doesn't want to reveal much at this point but I can't help but feel like I needed more. The episode moved the plot on well giving us a lot to talk about while also showing us that Wanda is definitely the one who is creating Westview even if she is being controlled.

WandaVision delights in offering us up questions to ponder, Pietro's arrival asks about 90 million question that only get bigger with his appearance in this episode. Wanda really doesn't trust him (attacking him after he made a cruel reference to Vision already dying once) why is he there, how? As mentioned my bet is on Mephisto.

Tommy and Billy also continue to be a mystery, gaining superpowers aside Wanda cannot control them, why? Are they also something to with Mephisto or something else entirely? One thing the episode does establish is that Wanda is losing control with her kids, Pietro and Vision all going against her in the episode.

WandaVision has three episode left with a lot of questions to be answered, my gut feeling as that a lot of questions will be left unanswered which is heart-breaking the wait till Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness will be a long one but one thing is for certain, the MCU is at it's best right now and I for one look forward to every bit of it coming up.
