WandaVision's Now in colour continues to build the mystery surrounding Wanda and Westview in a fun tribute to the Brady Bunch
WandaVision is great, there I've said it. Episode 3 centres around Wanda's magically sped up pregnancy and takes inspiration from the Brady Bunch, I really did not think I would ever sum up a Marvel show in that way but here we are.
Writing reviews/summary's on this show has proved difficult, in terms of actual events in the episode there is one (maybe two) with Wanda's pregnancy being the focus of the episode. Of course the talking point of this episode is the ending as Monica/Geraldine is expelled from Westview by Wanda herself.
This review is very much speculation and always these are just my thoughts and by no means official. So the show itself, episode 3 has me convinced that Wanda is the person who has created Westview, whether she is being controlled or not is a different question altogether.
I spoke about the house of M storyline in last weeks review and I think it's become more clear that WandaVision is taking elements of that story. Wanda seems to want the perfect life with Vision, (hence the reality show setting) I'm still not sure whether Vision is alive. The obvious answer is no and that he is a figment of Wanda's new reality but I'm not sure. There are rumours that Vision has uploaded his conscious elsewhere but even for comic book shows this seems a stretch. Vision spends the episode trying to help Wanda and later seems destined to find something out before the "show" is rewound, it has me thinking he could be alive but at this point who knows!
I've been critical of Vision's character in the past and still maintain that he was woefully misused in the films especially when it came to his power. As mentioned last week I think the show has fleshed out Vision a lot more and I'm absolutely loving Paul Bettany's portrayal here. Vision of course has a very different role in this show, it's great to see him in a different setting even if he has less to do.
The show has established a great formula early on, the show felt very much like a sitcom (arguably a little more than last weeks episodes) and used the premise to it's maximum. I do wonder whether Geraldine's reveal could have been teased a while longer ( I might have missed some clues) but it's clear the show has a lot of story to tell.
So onto Geraldine, the climax of the episode saw Wanda and Geraldine standing over Wanda's new born children Tommy and Billy. The shock comes when Wanda mentions losing her brother to which Geraldine states "he was killed by Ultron wasn't he", the discovery of a Sword necklace on Geraldine led to Wanda seemingly kicking Geraldine out of Westview. It was a great twist and of course makes sense as we already knew that Geraldine was Monica from Captain Marvel.
I'm loving the mystery to this show, I love how little we know and how much digging I've been able to do, it's great to learn a lot more about Marvel comics too and the history of Scarlett Witch and Vision(the house of M storyline seems awesome). As mentioned Wandavision is great and it really feels to me as the start of a new Marvel universe, with so many comic book characters available to them the MCU has everything they need to bring the best of comic book Marvel to life. WandaVision seems to throwing away anything done before and sets up of a new post blip world building a new world. Whatever happens from here I'm positive and excited to see what Marvel does next.
