A look at all we know about the Empire after the apparent fall of the Empire to the The Mandalorian Chapter 1
Welcome to What Happened... A piece where I take a person, group or event from TV/film and dive into what happened after what we have seen, this piece runs side by side with my review of The Mandalorian Chapter 1 so there will be no spoilers past that episode.
The Empire ruled the galaxy for 30(ish) years after the fall of Jedi and the Republic, orchestrating the fall of The Jedi Sith Lord Darth Sidious manipulated Jedi Anakin Skywalker to help erase the Jedi and take over the galaxy. He formed the first Galactic Empire and installed himself as Emperor ruling over the galaxy. After 20 years a rebellion began opposing the Empires tyrannical rule eventually starting and winning the Galactic civil war and The Emperor being killed By Anakin Skywalker during the Battle of Endor.
For many years, Star Wars ended on the Battle of Endor with a rebel win however the war raged on with the bulk of the Imperial army fighting on against the rebel alliance. A day after Endor, General Han Solo lead an assault on another Imperial base on Endor finding plans the Empire had for this eventuality and that the Empire had no intention of surrendering and ending the Galactic civil war leading to all out war.
As battles ensued around the galaxy, the rebels and Imperials fought many battles such as the battle of Cawa City, a particularly hard thought battle as both sides picked up heavy losses despite a Rebel win. After this Operation Cinder was initiated, a back up plan devised by Emperor Palpatine that punished the Empire for allowing his death by bombing several Imperial strong holds such as Naboo (Naboo was in fact saved). He trusted this to his closest ally Gallius Rax with he the aim of Operation Cinder being to eliminate both Imperial's who failed him and also taking out rebels in the process paving the way for his return. Palpatine also wanted to eliminate the weak meaning the Imperials who survived would be the strongest and loyal to him, these Imperials left the Civil War and fled to the unknown regions to start rebuilding the Empire (it turns out Palpatine himself had survived and was healing in Exegol where the Imperial forces were rebuilding.
After this the Galactic Civil war raged on, The remains of the Empire continued to use any means necessary even going as far as to start peace talks with the Rebels only to then attack their forces. A year after the Battle of Endor Imperial and rebels (now the New Republic) met on Jakku with the aim of ending the war once and for all. The Empire brought the majority of their strength against the the New Republic. Despite this the New Republic emerged victorious finally ending the Empire rule of the galaxy's. Following the rebel win both sides stopped hostilities with the new republic ruling the galaxy and the remaining core of the Empire retreating to the unknown systems to start the rebuild of the Empire and the birth of the First Order
It wasn't till 9 ABY (After the battle of Yavin) that Chapter 1 of The Mandalorian takes place, In this time remnants of The Empire still existed believing they needed to finish The Emperors work, hiding in the Outer Rim. It is unknown at this point whether this Empire is connected to The First Order and/or The New Empire rebuilding in Exegol.
I will make my through both seasons of The Mandalorian exploring the remnants of The Empire and adding to this article as I go on.
